Our rental season runs from April to October, with the exception of Kodiak which is available year round.

There's no one good time to visit Alaska, and each season is unique and special in its own way!

April and May offer the opportunity to explore our state before the busy tourism season starts, but do require a little extra planning due to cooler temperatures, snow and seasonal road and campground closures.

June, July and August feature our warmest weather, though temperatures can range widely depending on the weather patterns. Mosquitos are generally most abundant in June through mid-July and this is also prime fishing season.

Late August through October bring cooler, often wetter, weather, but as the darkness at night returns, opportunities to view the Northern Lights return. Fall colors peak in September and can be quite spectacular.

Most of our rentals require a minimum of a 7-day stay, and this is what we recommend as a starting point.

With a 7-day stay we recommend sticking to either a route through the Kenai Peninsula OR a route through the interior of Alaska, but doing both can feel rushed as there are a lot of miles to cover!

With a 10-14 day stay you can travel at a more leisurely pace and experience different parts of the state.

The great part of overland travel is that you can plan out every detail, tour and campsite of your stay, or plan nothing and wing it—or maybe somewhere in between!

Here are a few tips and things to think about:
Planning a night or two at a private campground, hotel, lodge, or B&B can be a nice mid-trip refresh and give you time to catch-up on laundry, showers and wifi.
Alaskans LOVE to camp, so weekends tend to be quite busy at public campgrounds.
Boondock campsites tend to be a little further away from towns, so if you are planning an early morning tour, it may be a good idea to stay closer to town in a campground the night before.

A month before your arrival we reach out to help you iron out the final details of your rental. We will plan your arrival and orientation time and add any additional add-on items. We will collect your final payment at that time.

When planning your clothing, layers are key. Weather can vary, so a variety of clothing is recommended. Full raingear and waterproof hiking shoes will be appreciated if you hit a patch of rainy weather. A hat and sunscreen are also highly recommended because when the sun is out, it is very intense due to the low altitude of the sun.
